Chance was found wandering in the country in southern Illinois. From his injuries we, along with our veterinarian have determined that Chance was shot in the head and left for dead in the country. Chance was a skeleton when he was found, emaciated and the gunshot wound on his head was filled with maggots. When we were asked to take Chance it was as a hospice dog, no one expected him to live much longer. He was barely able to walk and weighed just under 50lbs. He is now 70lbs. It was assumed he was a very old dog due to the condition he was in. Chance is only around 5 years old. When we agreed to take Chance we had no idea what we were getting and just how deeply he would affect so many people. Chance is a survivor. The bullet damaged his vision just a little, but the main issue the gunshot caused is his lack of balance. Chance is able to walk but he looks as though he has just spent a night out on the town. He wobbles and stumbles and occasionally tips over. None of this has affected his spirit and his will to live. He is a happy and well adjusted dog. He plays with toys and loves children. This dog has to be one of the most forgiving creatures ever created. After the abuse he has endured (Chance also has a 4" knife would in the back of his neck from being stabbed) he still loves people and people love him! If you met Chance you would see the happiness in his eyes and his determination to not let this slow him down one bit!
You can't help but fall in love with him. This is guarantee.
Unfortunately Chance is heartworm positive. He also needs to be neutered and have a full blood work up done. We were not prepared for this, we thought we were giving him a loving last 2 weeks of life. We had no idea of the determination and will to live this guy has. Yes Chance is a damaged dog, but that does not make his life any less valuable than another dogs. He is full of love, joy, happiness and most of all LIFE! Please help us save this dog, if anyone deserves this chance it is Chance.
