We saw a plea on Facebook for Sheena who was on her last safe day at Mobile County Animal Control in Alabama. It said she was pregnant and had been hit by a car. We called and there was no one for her. We did not have much money in our bank account but we knew we could not let her die! We rushed to get our paperwork for her that afternoon and told them we would drive up the next day to get her which we did. We left at 7am on 1/11/17 and returned home at 11pm that night but it was worth it! We rescued Sheena with our hearts not our heads but we don't regret it one bit.

Sheena turned out to one of the sweetest dogs we have ever met! We took her to our vet, Bushnell Animal Clinic, on 1/12/17. Dr Mounger said her leg was too swollen to x-ray so he splinted it and she stayed overnight to minimize the swelling.

She is doing well, considering she is very pregnant with a boken leg and has adapted to the splint well.

Sheena will need an orthopedic vet for surgery to correct her leg once the puppies are weaned. This is something that our vet cannot correct. Her leg is broken in a couple places and since she is due to have the puppies in one to two weeks surgery cannot be performed at this time. We need donations as an orthopedic vet is going to anywhere from $3000 to $5000 and we are a very small Rescue. Please help us help her.

The 3 surviving puppies she had went to the other Rescue and are doing well being bottlefed.

1/27/17 Update--Sheena had her leg surgery on 1/25/17 and is now back with me her foster. She has stitches on the inside of leg. She has two different pain medications and an antibiotic. She will go back to the vet in two weeks to have the stitches removed. She was at the vets office for two days. On the 2nd day they did a pelvis x-ray and discovered she has a dislocated hip on the opposite side of her broken leg. Surgery to correct it will be performed once her leg is healed. This is an unexpected expense so donations are needed for that as well. Once she healed from her surgeries she will get her heartworm treatment. Sheena has a long road ahead of her but she will be healed in the not distant future with your donation for her care!

4/24/17 Update--Sheena is now using her leg but needs her hip suregery to fix her dislocated hip so she can walk normal. She walks at a slow place due to the bad hip. She had a camera shoot this morning and we have added those pictures.

4/27/17 We spoke to the vet today and they gave the go ahead for Sheena's hip surgery which they estimated at $800. We don't currently have the estimate in our account. We also need to order to order flea and heartworms meds for her. We need to raise the funds to get her fourth and final surgery. She will be ready for adoption once she heals. Please help us get this sweet girl completely healed and ready for her forever home. She is so worth it!

  • It has been awhile since we updated on Sheena. She is doing well after 2 surgeries for her leg. She still needs one more to fix her dislocated hip. She is still not using her leg but the vet said to give it time which we are doing.

Only one puppy has managed to survive with the other Rescue. They did not receive the colostrum which would have helped them survive.

Sheena is a very loving girl and we are happy we saved her. She has learned that treats are yummy and loves to be doted on.

Please donate to help us with her upcoming surgery and long term care she is going to need before she can be adopted.

    Thank you in advance!

  • In the last 24 hours Sheena gave birth to 7 Puppies! Unfortunately 2 were stillborn and 1 survived only a few hours. She received vaccines at the shelter days before we picked her up. We feel this was the cause of their deaths. The other 4 puppies are doing great though as well as Sheena. She is a good momma but has difficulty lying flat so they are limited to just half of her teats. For this reason and for the health of Sheena we found a great Rescue to take them and bottle-feed them. Big Hearts for Big Dogs Rescue teamed up with us to help. They will be taking the puppies in 48 hours. That way the puppies can get the colostrum they need to ensure they start healthy. Once they are gone we will be taking her to the vet for the surgery for her broken leg. We hope to be able to save it but not sure if we can. We will try our best to save it though. Sheena also needs heartworm treatment since she is heartworm positive. Once she is healthy in few months we will find her forever home. She is a total sweetheart and deserves the best has to offer. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers for Sheena and her puppies!! We also thank you for your kindness in donating to help us help her!

  • Sheena is doing well and will be going for leg surgery this coming week. Sheena has now accepted that her babies are gone. We are teaching her about treats because she does not know what they are.. We take her outside a couple times a day as she love the outdoors. We have a fence company coming Monday morning to give us an estimate on fencing an outside area of her room. This will be another cost but Sheena deserves to be happy after all she has been through.

We still aren't even halfway to the amount but we will do the best we can with what we have gotten so far. Please find it in your heart to help this girl by donating even a small amount. Thank you in advance for helping us help Sheena!

  • We had a crisis last night. Another puppy died. We immediately set into action and called the other Rescues foster. She said she would meet us halfway which became Gibsonton. We loaded up the puppies immediately and set forth to save their lives. The puppies are doing good. They immediately received goats milk at the meeting point. They will continue to be bottle-fed. Please keep them in your thoughts.

We are currently at the vets office waiting to be seen. Sheena is still pushing. It is most likely a dead puppy still inside her. We can't catch a break for this sweet girl. She is doing ok but is naturally worried as to where her puppies are. We slept right next to her but she did not sleep much as usual due to the pain of her broken leg. Please keep her in your thoughts too. We need all we can get.

  • Sheena now has a lighter plastic splint to make her more comfortable and safe for the puppies. The first splint was heavy and awkward for her as well as dangerous for the puppies. We felt that it could possibly kill the puppies if she were to drag it over them. We were very pleased with the 2nd vet we took her too. She also said that no surgery could be performed until the puppies have been weaned. The vet thinks Sheena is in the beginning of having the puppies. She didn't sleep much last night but as I type this at 5:30am she is finally sleeping. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is a fighter and we will pull through this for her. We thank you for your donations to help this brave girl!

  • We are taking Sheena for a 2nd opinion today at 2:45. She can't continue the way she is. Her pain level at night is very bad. Last night it was 2am before she could sleep. The splint she is currently in will also be deadly to the puppies. Sheena is so exhausted, We cry for her everyday. Please keep her in your thoughts today.

    January 17, 2017

  • We have n appointment with a different vet for a second opinion today at 2:45pm. Sheena did not eat breakfast this morning and we are worried she might have an infection going on. We have the vet run blood work to see. We just checked on her and she appeared to be crying. Our hearts hurt so bad for this sweet girl. We added a picture of crying to this campaign. Please donate to help this sweet girl overcome her obstacles that just keep coming. She is worth every bit of help we can get her.

  • Sheena is doing ok all things considered. She finally went potty but has not pooped yet so naturally we are concerned. We added her exray picture to show her leg is broken in two places. No sign of labor yet thankfully. She needs to figure out how to move around better before the puppies come along. Keep prayers coming for this sweet girl please. Donations are desperately needed as we need supplies for her daily care not mention we may need an Orthopedic Vet for her down the road. Thank you all for helping by sharing and donating, she is definitely worth it!

    January 14, 2017

  • We just spoke with the vets office and she will need weekly splint changes for now. He doesn't want to do surgery at this time due to the fact she is about a week away from having her puppies.

    January 13, 2017

  • Sheena is now back at her foster home. I am here with her and spending the night to keep her company and let her know she is loved. Doc has put a special splint on her broken leg which is broken in two places. He is hoping it will heal on its own. If it doesn't then she will need to see an Orthopedic Vet/surgeon once puppies are old enough to take off her.

Like Doc said it is a mess any way we go, a pregnant dog with a broken leg is no easy fix. Sheena is also going to need Heartworm treatment because she is pretty loaded with them. We have a long road ahead of us but we will get there with everyone's help!

We (includes Sheena) appreciate your help a thousand times and more!!
