Prai is fighting to full recovery. Help us help her in this journey.

  • Breed: Mountain Cur Mix
  • Name: Prai
  • Color: Tan
  • Size: Medium
  • Sex: Female

_I walked around until I felt I couldn't possibly take another step. The holes in my paws were painful. The worms living inside me took my energy and made me feel weak. But this voice inside told me to keep walking, keep going, keep searching, keep breathing... and then I saw her: a human friend. She gently came over and gave me warmth. She somehow made me feel safe and took me home. And now, I know I can keep fighting._

This is the worst type of abuse we have ever seen. One of our fosters came home last night to find this poor girl roaming around the street in heartbreaking conditions. We think she was used for breeding and dog fighting and then dumped on the road.

Her foster family has decided to name her Prai. Prai is now safe in our care and will begin her long journey of recovery. She's been fed, has had water, visited the vet and is now resting. We will get the blood work and heartworm test results tomorrow. She is very anemic and full of parasites. Once she is healthy, she will need to be spayed and receive all of her vaccines. Prai only weighs 30 lbs (when she should weigh about 50), and will need to gain weight slowly as she recovers.

Any and all donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced for supporting Prai.

As an aside: we are asking the community to come forward if anyone has any type of information regarding her previous owners. We'd like to press charges on the cruel person who did this to her and without any information, it will be nearly impossible to do so.

  • Prai had her follow up at the vet today. Wow, she went from a mere 30 pounds to 50.8!!!! She got all her shots updated and chest X-rays. We currently have her on a cycle of doxycycline for the start of her HeartWorm treatment. She is doing absolutely amazing and is now a happy pup that loves to play and cuddle with her humans and other dogs!

  • $500 Reward for information that leads to the arrest of the abuser that starved, tortured, and dumped this beautiful dog in Bradenton, Fl near the corner of 9th Avenue NW and 75th St.

Why should the residents of Bradenton care about an abused dog?

Research has shown that people who abuse animals escalate to crimes against people. The examples are appalling, Albert DeSalvo, the "Boston Strangler" trapped dogs and cats in Orange Crates and shot arrows through the crate. David Berkowitz, the "Son of Sam" poisoned his mother's parakeet. Ted Bundy and the Columbine killers all abused animals before committing horrific acts against humans. Because of these scientific studies, those who abuse animals are now on the radar of law enforcement agencies, social workers, and veterinarians in states that have cross-reporting laws requiring these professionals to report cases of animal abuse. So if we want to keep Bradenton's residents safe, we need to find the person who abused this dog and have him or her prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

If you know anything that may lead to identifying this abuser, please email

  • Update on Prai:

Bloodwork results came in today, the vet said one liver enzyme was a bit high, but nothing too serious. Her protein level was 25 and she said a healthy dog should be around 37, she is of course, heartworm positive.

The vet said the things that aren't in the normal levels are due to malnutrition and practically being starved to death, and hopefully we can get those back in range with proper care and good high protein food.

On a good note, she stood while eating her dinner tonight for the first time. One step at a time for this beauty named Prai!
