$15,022.00 raised of $12,000.00

First Order - Our sincere gratitude to everyone from all over the United States and beyond that have prayed for us and with us during this most devastating natural disaster, the Texas floods courtesy of Hurricane Harvey.

Though many of us, including our friends, family, neighbors, volunteers, and foster pets have suffered devastating losses, we continue to push forward to do the work we love- rescuing and saving animals, many of which today are left disoriented and lost due to fleeing the rising water. Again, our heartfelt gratitude for your kind and caring response to all of those affected by this destructive path of Hurricane Harvey!

Sincerely,

Operation Pets Alive!

WHAT'S YOUR SUPERPOWER?

YOU CAN HELP US CARE FOR OUR FOUR-LEGGED FLOOD VICTIMS!

Operation Pets Alive! continues to provide relief to both Montgomery County Animal Shelter and Conroe Animal Shelter during the sheltering of Harvey's lost and displaced pets.

Though many of our volunteer foster families and foster animals have been evacuated from their homes due to Harvey's floods, we remain steady in implementing our life-saving programs.  Our commitment to helping all homeless and displaced animals in our community is stronger than ever!

Your financial support is greatly appreciated! Each dollar will help cover expenses for vetting and the care of our Harvey rescues.

TOGETHER, we can keep them healthy and help them find their way home!

THANK YOU for helping!

A FEW WORDS ABOUT US

Operation Pets Alive believes that many in our community share our values with regard to homeless dogs and cats. Therefore, we see a need to increase community awareness and community involvement regarding the No-Kill movement and the plight of homeless dogs and cats in our community. We want to help people ?do the right thing? for animals.

OUR MISSION

Operation Pets Alive! is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community through innovative programs that: Raise community awareness Reduce the number of dogs and cats that enter our shelters Increase the number of dogs and cats that leave our shelters alive.

VALUES

We believe that life is precious and the finality of death should truly be a last resort. We believe that the term ?euthanasia? should be used only in reference to ?the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (as domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy?* or for truly aggressive animals and should not be used for the killing of healthy or treatable animals with a fair or better prognosis for a quality life. We value the human spirit, the desire to make the world a better place for animals and humans alike, and the ability of people to bring about change. We value teamwork and recognize the need to treat each other with respect and fairness.

GOALS

We want to make a significant contribution to reduced killing in shelters through treatment of treatable animals, training, adoption, foster, and rescue. We want to make a significant contribution toward decreasing the number of pets that enter shelters through spay and neuter, reclaim, retention & re-homing. In particular, we see a need to help shelters manage ?at risk? shelter dogs and cats. We promote workable tenets of No-Kill sheltering as listed in the No-Kill Equation and defined as saving over 90% of shelter animals. We see a top-notch Community Adoption Program as one key element (including off-site adoptions, community involvement, spay/neuter, behavioral modification, medical support, pet retention guidance, pet re-homing support, value for money).

  • Hello, everyone!

We have reached our goal and are humbled by the outpouring of support!!! Operation Pets Alive! is very grateful to you for placing your confidence and trust in us. We will work tirelessly to save and provide the care homeless animals in need deserve.

What have we been up to this week? We have been pulling and assessing dogs and cats from the shelter and placing them in foster homes. We are preparing them for two transports, one on September 20, and another one on September 23. We have taken in animals with medical issues that require medical attention and will offer them every opportunity to heal and become healthy and adoptable. They will remain in foster homes until they recover. We would like to remind you that these animals would not be having the opportunity to leave shelter life behind if it wasn't for donors like you! YOU are the lifesavers here. THANK YOU!

We wish we could personally thank each and every one of you and tell you how much your support means to us and the animals we care for. There are just no words. You have kind and loving hearts!

You are in our thoughts and wish you the very best!

  • Hi, everyone!

WOW!!! Thank you all for your kind and generous support!

Here's a quick update on what's been going on in the animal rescue world.  Operation Pets Alive! has been busy getting pets from our community shelters and our foster program ready for transports to our out-of-state animal rescue partners. Within the last two weeks, we have sent two Pups on Trucks and one Flight for Life transports to the Northeast and California. Our beautiful and amazing adoptable Texas dogs, puppies, kittens, and cats are guaranteed adoption within days of arrival. It is always heart wrenching to see them go, but knowing their forever home is just days away, eases the heartache just a bit.  Plus, we head right back to the shelter to pick up yet another pet that is waiting for his chance to a great life. We continue to get requests from transports and are currently working on the next few boarding lists.  If you or anyone you know would like to try fostering, this is the perfect opportunity! It is just a short 2-week committment, and then they're off to a better life.  Send us an email at info@operationpetsalive.org you'd like to give it a try.

Our transport program has a major impact on the displaced Harvey pets. For each pet Operation Pets Alive! pulls from a shelter kennel into our foster program and on a transport list, that kennel is now made available for a Harvey pet! It's a win-win. The existing shelter pet gets his chance to find a forever home and the Harvey pet gets some extra time to find his family!

Click and share our PoundWishes fundraiser! We appreciate the shares!

From all of the volunteers and pets of Operation Pets Alive!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and paws!

  • Hello! Sending a heartfelt Thank You to all of you for your support! Operation Pet Alive! hopes that this update finds everyone safe and dry. We continue to pray for everyone who has suffered losses during this disastrous event.

Water has receded in many parts of our area. Homes are being gutted, emptied of debris and being dried. There is work to be done everywhere we turn. And, lost and homeless animals are to be saved and taken care of.

One of our county shelters has established a pop-up shelter at the Lone Star Center in Montgomery County, which is housing Harvey's displaced animals. The objective is to place all Harvey's pets in a central location giving families every opportunity to find their pets easily. Many volunteers have been working long hours to have these animals vetted, cleaned and provided with excellent care.

Operation Pets Alive's main function at this point is to concentrate on pulling as many shelter and foster pets (not Harvey pets) for transport to the various out of state animal rescue partners that have come forth to aid in the animal rescue of our community's floods.

Thank you a million times over to Helen Woodward Animal Center from Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Their team arrived last Thursday with a generous donation and with their sleeves rolled up and ready to get to work helping with our animal rescue efforts. They have been working around the clock helping with vetting and assessments of dogs and cats that will be pulled out of our county shelters and placing them in our transport program. The Helen Woodward Animal Center team is planning on transporting at least 80 dogs and cats to their adoption center near San Diego, CA early next week on a flight courtesy of Southwest Airlines! Thank you, Southwest Airlines! We appreciate your generosity!

We are also very grateful to our friends and partner, Humane Society for Greater Nashua in NH for welcoming a Pups on Trucks transport with OPA pets. Our first Harvey Pups on Trucks transport took to the road on August 30 and arrived safely in New Hampshire last evening. Thank you, Humane Society for Greater Nashua! We know our pups are in the best of hands!

Operation Pets Alive! has additionally scheduled several Pups on Trucks and Flight for Life transports. We are overwhelmed by the offers of support coming in from our partnering animal shelters up north. Our life-saving programs would not be effective if not for the collaboration between our friends and partners up north and Operation Pets Alive! We appreciate and value all of you!

Though every effort is being made to reunite all of Harvey's lost pets, we know many of them will not be reunited. Some may have been strays for some time, some may not be claimed and other's simply may not find their way back home. These animals will become residents in our county shelters and they will be looking for new homes.

This is a gargantuan task for the animal rescue community! Not only now, but for months to come. Some of these pets may be healthy, but some may come with an illness or injuries that will require medical attention. We need to be prepared for what is yet to come... Harvey's flood of pet homelessness!

Please help us share our fundraiser. All (100%) of money raised will go to the care, vetting and for some, expenses for additional ground and air transports.

We are forever grateful for everyone's support!
