Bonded shepherd boys in critical condition at the ER.

Coastal needs a Christmas miracle. Levi and Jackson are a bonded pair who were turned in by their owner. They both quickly fell ill and were diagnosed with a URI. A couple days later, it was full blown pneumonia. They've been at the emergency vet and Levi is still oxygen dependent, while Jackson is not, but both are seriously ill. Levi is critical.

Jackson was released two days ago, but had such a bad night (labored breathing and gobs of nasal discharge) that he was back at the hospital the very next morning. Levi had surgery to clear his nasal passages. He's still oxygen dependent and critical, but doing better since the surgery. Neither he nor Jackson are wanting to eat, so they're both on IVs at this point.

Could you please consider making a donation to help save these boys? If you are familiar with emergency 24/7 care, you know it costs out the yin yang. They're in great hands, but it's very expensive and their bill is already over $6k and rising. Please, anything helps. A dollar helps. We really need your support!

Updates

  • Jackson is back in the hospital. He went for another ALT test and his numbers are still moving in the wrong direction. That, combined with his low blood pressure, was enough to readmitted him for further treatments.

  • Jackson was released from the emergency vet three days ago and went into a foster home. He's again refusing to eat, even with an appetite stimulant, and isn't going in the direction we'd hoped. He's on his way back to the vet today.

  • Thursday evening, Levi took a turn for the worst. He was crashing, so we consulted the multiple vets and specialists who had been caring for him... it was decided that the kindest thing to do for him would be to help him cross over. Jackson was able to say goodbye and Levi was released from the pain this body was causing him.

As Jackson was especially bonded to Levi, we worried that he'd start crashing, as well. He had a few setbacks, but, today, he is stable. He's still on IV meds & fluids, and needs an appetite stimulant to accept food, so he'll be staying at the emergency hospital until he's give the all clear to leave. We're hopeful that he'll be back in his foster home soon.

It's never easy to say goodbye and this was especially hard, as Levi is part of a bonded pair. Thank you for your continued support, which allows us to treat these dogs and make sure they get excellent care. We're crushed that we lost Levi, but take comfort in the fact that he's no longer in pain.

  • UPDATE: Levi had surgery to clear his nasal passages. He's still oxygen dependent and critical, but doing better since the surgery. Neither he nor Jackson are wanting to eat, so they're both on IVs. Thank you for helping us help this bonded pair! We're looking at a bill that's around $6,200, as of this morning.
