URGENT NEED FOR MAX- cancerous mass in stomach!

Scooby-Doo's Rescue saw this little Shih tzu on social media that needed help.  No questions we said yes.  When we picked him up we noticed his legs were very bowed out and he had some blood in his stool.  So we went to the vet.  It was very red no true concern.  The fecal came back good.  We kept  him on home cooked meals and a probiotic.  Until today 1/13/20108 I woke up to a horrible stench.  I walked out and there was a pool of dark ashy stool from our little Max.  I quickly got him over to our Vet.  They assessed him.  His gums were whiter than white.  They called Oradell Animal hospital to set  up  a blood transfusion.  We rushed over to Oradell were they took him right in.  Poor little max still had life in his eyes.  His eyes never left me.  I watched him as they carried him off.

The doctors words were disheartening. "There is a mass in Max's stomach and its not good" right there time still.  Sure we can do surgery and chemo but not sure if if he will pull thru.  We can give him transfusions but the mass will just keep bleeding out.

What do we do?? We are just a small rescue with medical bills already sky high. After crying  and posting.. More  crying... Crying as I am typing this. I am going to beg for everyone out there to help Max.  Max is a 2 yr old baby Shih Tzu.  His prior owners tossed him the shelter saying he was aggressive.  He has been with us for 2 weeks and not one sign of aggression.  Just love.  He loves to be cuddled and he loves baths.  So with already $6000 in bills out there do I add more to it?  Does the money really matter?? In my eyes no. I don't care about the money!!!  If we have to hold 20 fundraisers then thats what we do.  If I have to go through my home and sell stuff. Then that is what we do.

But I am asking all of you to please give Max a chance. He has adopters waiting for him. When I called them today to tell them what was going on, their words to me were "we are not giving up on him either".

Right now my mind is cloudy with all the medical terminology.  But I know what we are going to do. We are going to have Max go into surgery and have them remove the mass but we opted out for the Chemo. Our Friend Billy Bauer who runs The Baunji Strong Foundation is coming up with a raw meal plan for Max for when he comes home.

Please find it in your heart to give anything and share Max far and wide.

Thank you

Peace-n-Paws

  • Hi.  Im sorry I have not updated in a few days but trying to get Max back on track.  Max is back in rescue (in my home).  He is doing well.  He is eating, drinking and taking all of his medications.  Its now 7 days after his surgery and we went back in for a blood level.  When we left Wednesday his blood level was at 26 and today it was still at 26.  They are concerned.  Me - he didnt go up BUT he didnt go down either.  The other thing, his biopsy came back.  Our Mighty Max has a very aggressive cancer.  This cancer attacks the lymphnoids.  What does this mean?  It means he does not have a expiration date stamped on him!! It means we will fight for him!! It means this little fella has a lot of life and a lot of fight in him!! This is what we do... We do not give up!!!   We are going forever to make sure Max has the best chance at life.  Thank you for taking your time to read this update.   Mighty Max is very much worth the read <3

  • Well, just got off the phone with Dr. Lee at Oradell.  Surgery is set for this afternoon.  They will be going in and removing a large mass off the Max's large intestine and a smaller lymphoma cyst next to it.  This is a very evasive surgery with removal of part of the intestine.  They are also going to be removing some stones inside of his bladder that could cause problems down the road.  Max's blood count upon his arrival at the hospital yesterday was a 10.  With 2 transfusions, today he is at 17.  He is walking and yesterday he did eat a little bit of chicken.  All good signs.  He is a fighter!! I believe he knows he is loved.  I believe he knows he is wanted.  I will be going back and forth to make sure he knows that I am there.  Once he is up and thru surgery I will invite his adoptive family to come and visit with him.  Love conquers all <3 I will never forget these words from  our first vet many years ago.  LOVE LOVE LOVE.  GIVE THEM HOPE!! GIVE THEM A REASON TO FIGHT TO LIVE.

WE ARE FIGHTING FOR YOU MAX.  WE LOVE YOU MAX! WE ARE NOT GIVING UP ON YOU <3

  • Well, I spoke with Oradell and Max is doing well and resting comfortably. They were able to remove ALL of the large mass and the other small cyst next to it They checked the liver and the lungs. CLEAR!! The doctor said everything went very well and now we just wait for the biopsy which could take 3-5 days.

I am going to see Max tonight and then again tomorrow. I will be cooking for him as tomorrow he can start eating some homemade meals..

Thank you all for your prayers and keep them coming.. He is not out of the woods just yet
