Duke is a ghost dog who is now severely injured.
Duke has been a part of a group of homeless, roaming dogs who disappear in and out of our lives. For the last 2½ years, we have tried to keep Duke and his pack alive by leaving food out for them. Duke has been alone, unloved, and terrified during this time. He has had no trust in people, his tail didn't wag, and there was a deep sadness in his eyes. Duke was completely defeated.
Duke and his pack started roaming more frequently in the past few months because their "safe" place (a trash pile in a patch of tall grass) has been under construction. Most recently, Duke was hit by a car and severely injured. He found a place to hide under a metal container for about a week, which is where we found him.
When we brought Duke into safety, we learned that in addition to his exterior degradation, he is also heartworm positive. From the accident, his leg is also severely damaged and needs to be amputated.
Duke has now spent about three months at the hospital. We are now asking you for support to help Duke recover and heal -- to live the life he so deserves. Between his heartworm treatment, vaccines, fecal, deworming and boarding, his bill is $4,500, but now with the necessary amputation and wheelchair, we will need to spend another $2,500. We promised Duke that we are going to heal his body and soul, and we are adamant to keep that promise.
Duke is a true survivor and has an amazing will to live. Please consider supporting his recovery by donating anything you can towards his medical bills or buying a gift off of his wishlist registry. He deserves to live a happy and healthy rest of his life.
