Veterans are heroes who put their lives on the line for our freedoms, but when they come home they need heroes to save them.
Paws for Veterans is an organization that does just that. We hand pick rescue dogs for veterans suffering from unseen wounds of war. PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury signs and symptoms manifest in a variety of ways, including night terrors, anxiety, depression, anger, and withdrawn behavior. Their doctors usually try solving those symptoms by heavily medicating our warriors, which comes with all kinds of unforeseen consequences. In addition to medical benefits, assisting with daily activities and working with us, animals can help us emotionally, psychologically, and socially. Studies have shown that having an animal can help with depression, stress and anxiety.
Here at Paws for Veterans we work with each of our veterans individually to select rescue dogs to serve as emotional support pets or service dogs based on their lifestyle and individual needs. Our trainers spend hours and weeks training our heroes with their heroes to really strengthen their bond. There is no 2 year waiting lists, and no one size fits all pets. We find the perfect dog that fits the life style, personality, and symptoms of each vet. We believe this approach helps our teams become buddies for life, and reduces the chances of the dogs finding themselves back in a shelter.
Please help us save the men and women who have risked it all for us by donating, or purchasing items for the pets in training. Be a hero to our heroes, help us heal their pain.
