It was first believed that Duke was hit by a car, but further evaluation revealed that he was continuously dragged by a car before being brought to a high kill shelter. Duke sustained multiple, serious wounds, one of which exposed his leg bone. Duke was unable to walk and increasingly lethargic; it was clear that he needed help. A gracious volunteer saved him from the high kill shelter and rushed him to the vet.
Since then, Duke has had surgery for his leg. Post-surgery, he has been receiving acupuncture, hot laser, and extensive therapy in hopes that he can one day walk again. He will remain at the vet's during this rehab, due to the extensive care he needs, including having to be physically carried outside to use the bathroom. This sweet boy is so good; he has had no accidents in his very large kennel that our vet padded with memory foam and soft blankets.
Duke is strong and the vet says he WILL walk again! After being at the vet's for a week, he tried to stand. He was successful for a moment but then fell back down. The vet techs caught him to buffer his fall, so he did not hurt himself. One day soon, Duke will walk out of that vet office, with his tail wagging, looking back to thank everyone who has helped him there.
This venture of recovery is very costly and will take Duke some time, but we will never give up on him. Duke is a fighter and is working so hard to stand again. This is our chance to help a pup in desperate need -- to give him his life back. Please consider donating to Duke's recovery and/or purchasing items off his wishlist.
