Hazel was dumped at the shelter in a cardboard box with severely damaged eyes.
Hazel was brought to animal control in a cardboard box with two other dogs. She has a very bad case of dry eye that's been left untreated and has caused her to scratch her eyes, leaving them scabbed over and damaged. The vet who initially saw her said she may need to have her eyes removed. We are hoping that's not the case!! She is currently taking prednisone and has a prescription ointment that is starting to help her, but she needs to be seen by an eye care specialist. The great news is, She can see and doesn't seem to be in any pain.
She is a sweet and playful girl. We made the soonest available appointment for her with the specialist and we want to do everything we can to save her vision. Please help us by donating to Hazel's medical expenses or donate a gift off her wishlist!
Update: Hazel has seen the specialist twice now and her eyes are becoming more clear. Her vision is good. She has tried several different medications and steroids and while she is more comfortable, she still isn't producing her own tears, and the fur around her eyes hasn't returned, so there is a concern that this could be an immune mediated disease called EG pemphigoid syndrome. She needs to have a skin biopsy to determine next steps, and she will also be spayed and have a dental cleaning/ extractions . Any help with her medical bills would be much appreciated. She is such a sweet and happy little girl who deserves to live a healthy life.
