Lilly needs Plate in her leg, hit by a car,

$905.00 raised of $2,000.00

Lilly was adopted as a puppy from the local city shelter in San Antonio, Texas. A few weeks ago, she was found lying on the side of the road and unable to walk -- Lilly had been struck by a car.

Once again she was taken to ACS (Animal Control Services), which is a high kill shelter in San Antonio. Her previous owners did not want to deal with her injuries and left her there to be euthanized.

That's when Roxxy K9 Rescue put in a request to pull Lilly and save her life the day she was scheduled to be put down.

Once they were able to get Lilly a splint on her leg, it did not slow her down, she was ready to get out of there -- she was practically running. She has plenty of spirit and she is a very happy girl. They were able to take Lilly to their vet so they could get an accurate diagnosis of her injuries. The x-rays revealed the her radius and ulna were broken in pieces and she was suffering from an infection in her leg. The vet determined the infections was likely caused by sitting in the shelter for so long without receiving proper medical attention.

They were given two choices: the orthopedist said a plate could be placed in Lilly's leg and she would keep her leg and be fine, or they could have her leg amputated. Lilly's original surgery date was set for Friday, July 13h (yipes!!) ; however, it was postponed because the infection in her bones was severe. The vet then placed her on stronger antibiotics in hopes of healing her infection so she could receive surgery. Lilly's next surgery is scheduled for July 13th to fix the her broken bones and place a plate in her leg.

Lilly is a beautiful dog inside and out. She loves having her belly rubbed and greets everyone that enters the clinic -- she deserves to be saved and live a wonderful life. However, Lilly needs your help. Lilly's surgery and other medical expenses comes to $1707.63, but that does not include the two follow up exams and x-rays.

Let's help Lilly keep her smile and get her the plate she needs in her leg.

Please consider donating to Lilly or purchasing her a bed to lay on after surgery or nourishing food to eat.

Updates

  • It has not be 1 weeks since Lilly had her surgery and she insist on playing with her foster brother Bear.  We tried to stop her for fear she would hurt herself but she is an active young lady and very determined to run and play.  Go Lilly!!

Thank you again to all of her supporters for making this happen.

  • Hello Everyone,

Lilly was not feeling too good yesterday, she had not been given her pain medication before she left the clinic. She is doing a little better today, not so much moaning but she is having a difficult time trying to adjust herself on the bed she has now which is just a fluffy round bed so she choose the floor.

Would one of you great supporters be willing to send a bed to Lilly that she can rest her head on and her body will lay correctly, please? I am posting this picture but Roxys K9 Rescue has a wishlist on Amazon that carry 2 types of beds that would greatly benefit her.

    Thank you so much.

  • Lilly was provided pain medication upon her discharge.  It's just that they did not give it to her and she went into pain and now she is still in pain and very uncomfortable.  Lilly is taking her pain medication but she had an extensive major surgery so she will be in some pain this first week.  Lilly just cannot seem to get comfortable so she moans every time she lays down some place. Her head has no support away from her body.  There are 2 beds listed on Amazon Roxys K9 Wishlist and either of them would be very helpful to Lilly trying to relax more comfortably.

    THANK YOU for caring.

  • Great News!! Lilly had her surgery yesterday and was discharged today in great spirits. She was sent home with a lot of medications to prevent infection, pain medication and medication for inflammation and swelling.

Lilly will have to return to the vet each week for them to check her surgical wound, xray the leg to make sure the plate is in place and put on another cast.

Right now she is a very happy girl ready to go home.

Thank you to everyone for your kind donations, your support was so helpful and Lilly would not have been able to have her surgery as soon as she did without your help.

Roxxy's K9 Rescue truly appreciates your kindness.

  • Lilly made it through her surgery but it was a long surgery.  Once they opened her up there were fragments of bones and they had to make sure there was no infection around the muscles.  Poor Lilly's bones  were so dense that the first pin he put in broke the bone.  Thankfully the surgery was a success although that leg is now an inch shorter but it will not bother her in any way.  She will still be able to run and play and be a great dog.

Thank you to everyone who donated and making it possible for Lilly to survive.  Now we have 6 weeks of recuperation, splint changes to check the wound and xrays to make sure the surgery healing is going in the right direction.

    Again, THANK YOU!

  • Lilly was still a bit sedated but the worse is over.  THANK YOU EVERYONE.

    July 13, 2018

  • Tomorrow, Friday 13th (Yipes!!!) is Lilly's big day.  Her surgery is scheduled and she will have both of those bones fixed with a plate.  I cannot wait to see her run around and play, well she is already doing that but she will be more mobile.

I would like to say THANK YOU to those who have donated and supported Roxxy's K9 Rescue.  San Antonio Texas has so many strays and 100's of dog are put down daily in our City's HIGH Kill shelter.  I saved Lilly with 4 hours before she was to be euthanized and I am soooooo happy I saved her, she is a delight and such a sweet girl.  She deserves a 2nd chance at live and a loving forever home who will make her a family member.

If you are unable to donate at this time, would you please view Lilly's Wish List?  I know she'll need a very comfortable bed to recuperate on.  Her recovery will take about 6-8 weeks.

Saving 1 life and finding a great home really means you are saving 2 lives because Lilly will leave her spot open for another stray that needs to be saved.  Thank you

  • Lilly arrived for surgery this morning at Callaghan Road Animal Hospital and I thought finally this girl will feel better.  The hospital prepped her, sedated her and while they were shaving her noticed another wound near the bones that was very infected so they looked at the original would and saw that it was still infected.  The antibiotics given to her last week were not strong enough.  They called me to come pick her up after she woke up from being sedated and discharged her with some stronger antibiotics and a special wash to keep the wound clear while it is healing and drying out.

They went ahead and scheduled her surgery for next Friday, July 13, 2018 and feel as if her wounds will be completely healed by then.

Thank you to anyone that has donated, we very much appreciate it and I will continue to update Lilly's status during the week until surgery.

The only good thing is that this obstacle gives us time to raise the funds for her surgery.  Thank you for your support.

  • Lilly was prepped and ready to go to surgery.

  • Lilly was shaved and they found another infected wound.

  • Poor Lilly thought she would get her plate today in her leg but she has to wait another week for surgery :(

    July 06, 2018

  • Today is surgery day for Lilly and we still need help paying for her surgery.

Eariler this week the orthopedist removed her splint which left her leg dangling and her broken bones exposed.  That big lump in the middle are the 2 broken bones.  Lilly is very uncomfortable and has suffered enough.  She is a super sweet dog and a wonderful family pet.

She deserves a 2nd chance to enjoy her life.  Thank you.

  • Lilly's broken bones sticking out

    July 06, 2018

  • Lilly has a neck brace on so she doesn't lick her wound, it needed to dry up before her surgery.

    July 06, 2018

  • Lilly had to have her splint removed per doctor's orders.  The surgeon wanted her wound to heal and dry before her surgery still scheduled for Friday, July 6, 2018.  Now her leg is just dangling there and she is a bit uncomfortable without that splint giving her some protection.  That knot in her leg are the 2 broken bones.

I will be so glad when Friday arrives so Lilly will be out of pain and on the road to recovery.  After being tossed away by her previous owners, Lilly deserves a 2nd chance.  She is a great house trained dog and knows all of her commands and since she is so sweet and trusting, I know that she has had love in her life before.  Thank you for sharing and any contributions you can make towards her care.

  • We just left the vet after having her splint removed.  Lilly is an active dog and she just wants to play tug-of-war with her stuffed animals.  Keeping he calm and still is a chore!!!  But she is so sweet how she comes up to you begging to play that you cannot help but give in to her request.

  • This is the cost to have the plate put in Lilly's leg to save her leg.  Would you please consider helping her?  Her surgery is scheduled for Friday, July 6.  Thank you

  • Clearly this is a bad break and the sooner Lilly gets her surgery, the faster she will not be in pain anymore.

    June 30, 2018

  • Let's help Lilly from this painful situation.  Please give consideration to making a donation, any amount is not too small,  Thank you!

  • Lilly visited the vet today (Friday, June 29, 2018) to examine her infected wound.  The infection is healing and a new splint was put back on.  Her surgery is scheduled for Friday, July 6 by an Orthopedist, Dr. Ramsey.  He will look at her wound to make sure she has enough skin to stitch up the wound.

Despite Lilly having a splint on, it does not stop her, she is strong and curious and loves to walk, well walk so fast it's almost a run!!!!!  She loves stuffed animals and will play with them a while before she tears them up.  She will even bring you a toy so you can play tug-of-war with her.  This girl really is a total sweetheart and so gentle.

Losing her 1st home does have an effect on her, when going to the vet today she wanted to make sure she was not going to be left.  She was soooooooo happy to get home.  Even though I tried to let her potty on the greens at the vets office, she waited until she came home and ran to the patio door to go out.

Lilly is a wonderful girl and she is beautiful.  We still need your help, we have a long ways to go to reach out goal to pay for her surgery.  Thank you for your consideration.  No amount is too small, even $5.00 helps.  THANK YOU, MUCH APPRECIATED!!
